Glamourous roles require acting too – Deepika Padukone

deepika padukone 200x160 Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone, who is usually seen in glamorous roles like in “Housefull” and “Break Ke Baad”, argues that it is a misconception such roles do not involve serious acting.
“It’s a misconception that glamourous roles don’t involve the actor to act. This is not true because in the West you have Julia Roberts doing really glamorous roles and you still notice her performance and notice how great she looks,” Deepika told reporters here.
The 25-year-old actress will next be seen in Prakash Jha’s film “Aarakshan”, based on caste-based reservations.

In Ram Sampat, I predict that a star is born – Aamir Khan

He is promiting it on social networking platforms, saying each track is a gem, but in the same breath, he requests people not to hear them on pirated CDs.
Composer Ram Sampath has gone experimental with the songs in “Delhi Belly” and Aamir feels he will become a star after the adult comedy.
“The music of DB is out in stores now and I am so excited because I am really happy with the way the sound track has turned out. Ram Sampat has done some truly inspired work, and so have the various lyric writers. Each track is a gem. “Bhaag DK Bose” is said to be the brainchild of the film’s writer Akshat Verma and later Amitabh Bhattacharya penned the song and Sampath composed and sang it.
“The DKB music video has been shot by a young, and in my opinion very talented director-editor, Sajid. Sajid has shot some great music videos and was recommended to me by Ram and Sona. Believe it or not he shot it in one day flat!!! I think we should all watch out for him,” wrote Aamir on Facebook.
As a producer, “Delhi Belly” is Aamir’s sixth production venture and expectations are high because so far he has maintained an outstanding track record with all this productions ventures from various genres becoming a big success at the box office – “Dhobi Ghat”, “Peepli Live”, “Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Naa”, “Taare Zameen Par” and “Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India”

Bollywood babes bitching in open!

Bollywood babes bitching in open!

Bollywood babes bitching in open!Karan Johar's TV show, 'Koffee with Karan', has become the battleground for the Bollywood starlets. In the recent episode when Biapsha and Lara made a dazzling entry on the sets, they showed no hesitation in giving a mouthful to Amisha Patel, who earlier made a comment about her inability to pull a role like Bipasha's Jism in her movies.

"Amisha clearly lacks the body and oomph to do something like Jism," argued bong bombshell.

Lara too reacted sharply on Karan's show. Settling the score with the gujju lass who dismissed her as 'inconsequential' Dutta said, "Amisha has found nothing as important as the many problems in her professional and personal life."

Now hear what Amisha has to say to the firebrand hotties.

"I completely agree with Bipasha. She's right - I don't have the frame for a film like Jism. I am petite and pretty, but maybe not sexy enough. I am not hot. I don't have a body like hers and I know my limitations. I think every actor fits into what they are meant to look good in.

"I know my limitations and have therefore opted for more substance-oriented roles like the one I'm doing in The Rising. Just like others can't do a Rising, Gadar, Kaho Na Pyar Hai or Humraaz, similarly I cannot justify roles where I don't fit into the look and feel of the character," she says.

On her feud with Lara she comments,"We were there together in Elaan and had a great professional relationship. The fact is we mostly interact on the sets while shooting. After pack-up, each of us goes their separate ways. Since I don't socialise much and most of my time is spent travelling and shooting, I rarely get a chance to meet my co-stars." she says.

Seems like it's only Karan who is having fun at the moment. Hey Karan... how how about divulging some more details over a cuppa Koffee?

Shilpa Shetty's estate taken over by squatter gang

shilpashetty2.jpg
London, May 28 (IANS) A private estate in Britain that is home to a host of celebrities - including Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty - is reportedly being taken over by a gang of squatters.
The celebrity residents of the St. George's Hill community in Weybridge, Surrey, are now being asked to be "vigilant" following the arrival of the squatters, the Daily Mail reported.
Former residents of the estate include singer Elton John, former Beatle Ringo Starr and Hollywood actress Kate Winslet.
Six squatters reportedly moved into the abandoned three million pound, six-bedroom Woodlawn Cottage on the exclusive estate in April, and claim they were not acting illegally.
The property was reportedly abandoned six years ago and has since become derelict. The squatters say they plan to stay as long as possible.
"It is legal for me to be here. I found the place on Google maps so I came up to have a look and the place was open. The locks had been broken off, no one was living here, it was completely open - so why not?" a squatter named Stefan Cybulski said.
Homeowners now say they want the illegal movers out.
"It does seem pretty extraordinary that the police can't do anything to get these people off the estate," a resident said.
"They have no right to be here, yet the law appears to be on their side - it's completely wrong."
Properties on the estate are worth nearly 10 million pounds.
A security guard is now being employed to keep the property under surveillance. Police have set up extra patrol of the area.

'D.K. Bose' is clear winner in 'Delhi Belly' album (Music Review)

By Ruchika Kher, Film: "Delhi Belly"; Music Director: Ram Sampath; Lyricist: Amitabh Bhattacharya; Singers: Sona Mohapatra, Ram Sampath, Keerthi Sagathia, Suraj Jagan, Chetan Shashital and Tarannum Mallik; Rating: ** and 1/2

After a light, youthful album for "Luv Ka The End", composer Ram Sampath goes all experimental with his next soundtrack for the film "Delhi Belly" and from the compositions he has created, the song "D.K. Bose" stands out, becoming quite a rage these days among youth.
The album offers 10 tracks of diverse kinds.
It opens with the song that is on everyone's lips nowadays - "D.K. Bose". Crooned by Sampath himself, the track with quirky, interesting and double meaning lyrics has already become quite popular. With a rock-infested composition and an energetic, pacy feel, the song has become a favourite of youth and has become an instant chartbuster.

Next is "Nakkaddwale disco, udhaarwaley khisko", a very different kind of track with unusual lyrics. It has been sung by Keerti Sagathia and is only an average number.

"Saigal blues" brings back the era and style of legendary singer K.L. Saigal. The track that has Chetan Shashital behind the mike is sung in Saigal's style but with a contemporary touch. The composition is under the genre of blues that bring about a certain poignancy in the song. On the whole, it's a mix of today and the eras gone by.

"Bedardi raja" by Sona Mohapatra is a rustic, masses song and seems to be an item number in the film. It's a simple composition and offers nothing great.

The track also has a grind mix, which has more beats than the original but the basic character and the pace of the song remain the same.

Another eccentric track "Jaa chudail", sung by Suraj Jagan, is a rock track from the word go. It might be liked by hard rock lovers.

"Tere siva", the only soft, love track of the album, has been voiced by Sampath and Tarannum Mallik and is a simple romantic number with a touch of rock. However, the orchestration is not very strong. A good hear.

"Switty tera pyaar chahida" is a Punjabi music lover's delight. Strong beats, Punjabi lyrics and lots of energy make this track a total dance number. Crooned by Keerthi Sagathia, this song gets the listener hooked and is quite likeable.

It also has another version called "Switty punk" that has the addition of Sampath and is higher in energy and fun.

Then there is "I hate you (like I love you)" that is a song by Keerthi Sagathia again with ample support from Sona Mohapatra. It is a mix of various genres of music and multiple influences. Starting as a slow-paced Indianised track, it goes on to become fully Western in its feel, music and lyrics, then takes the guise of a typical Bollywood song in the 1970s and finally ends like a qawwali. Very experimental and energetic at the same time.

On the whole, the music is unusual, breaks monotony and is far from being typical.

This is the best phase of my life: Sonu Sood

Mumbai, May 29 : Thanks to the success of "Dbangg", Sonu Sood has got his share of sunshine in Bollywood. And after working with Aishwarya Rai and Salman Khan, he now shares screen space with megastar Amitabh Bachchan in "Bbuddah - Hoga Terra Baap" and says that this is the best phase of his career.

"Every actor wants to work with Mr. Bachchan at least once. and I got an opportunity to work in a film, which is basically about him and me. Everyday was a learning experience. He is a great man with a lot of experience. He is a great guy and we had lot of fun together," the 38-year-old told IANS in an interview.

"We used to rehearse our scenes again and again because that really fine tunes your performance. He is an actor who is always ready for rehearsals, which is great. He used to give me suggestions that helped me.

"It's one of the best phases of my life. All the hardwork that I have put in the last 10 years is finally paying off. But this is just the beginning, still miles to go, lots to do and lots to learn. My journey has just begun, but this is a very important phase of my life," added the actor who is also doing "Maximum" with Tabu.

Sonu is playing a cop in "Bbuddah - Hoga Terra Baap", helmed by director Poori Jagannath and produced by AB Corp. It is slated for a July 1 release and is about an angry old man, played by Amitabh, who often gets into trouble because he loses his cool easily.

"Two years back he (Jagannath) narrated me a script and said that he wants to make a film with me and Mr. Bachchan. I liked the idea and finally it happened," said Sonu.

"I know his (Jagannath) commercial sensibilities. He is one of the most commercial directors and that's why I knew he will do justice to the script and also it was with Mr. Bachchan so there was no reason to say no," he added.

Sonu, who has also been part of films like "Yuva", "Aaashiq Banaya Aapne", "Singh is Kinng", revealed that he had to prepare for his role as a cop in the film.

There’s a real Ragini: Ekta Kapoor

ektakapoor2.jpg
By Hindustan Times
Filmmaker Ekta Kapoor has shed a lot of things. Including her obsession with the letter K and loads of weight. What she hasn’t lost, however is her undying faith in astrology. “I have too much faith in astrologers. My so called superstitions are even helping me shed the extra kilos,” quipped the Balaji Telefims honcho on a visit to the HT City office on Thursday.
Proudly showing off the ten rings on her fingers and several lucky bracelets, she said the K-factor worked well for her while it lasted. “It was working well for me, so I stuck to it. I was told that I had a mangal dhasha for nine years. Once that ended, I dropped the letter. As you can see, my new film, Ragini MMS doesn’t start with K.”
Adding that Ragini MMS, due to hit theatres on Friday, the 13th of May, is based on a true incident of a girl whose boyfriend tried to shoot a sex MMS with her. “Contrary to reports that my film was based on the infamous DPS MMS scandal in Delhi a few years ago, it’s based on another true incident. In fact, the real Ragini will be revealed to the world on May 5.” The horror film has been shot in ‘grabbed footage’ style of the 2009 cult film, Paranormal Activity.
Change topics from her work and Ekta gets a bit fidgety. “My work has completely sucked me in. There’s hardly any time left for anything else,” she says. Not even time for marriage? “I’m still a baby. The minute I grow up mentally I know I’ll find the right guy. Then, trust me, everyone will hear about him,” she says.

Two films can't bring change, 20 can: Rahul Bose

rahulbose1.jpg
By Dibyojyoti Baksi
Mumbai, April 29 (IANS) Actor Rahul Bose, known for his meaningful cinema as well as social activism, believes a handful of films cannot bring change in society. For that, there should a collective effort by filmmakers and government bodies to educate the masses.
"Change only happens with people who are ready to change, and the masses are not ready as yet. Changes happen at the outer boundaries, at the most at the wisest edge of the spectrum of people. You have to first look at them, then the next levels," the 43-year-old told IANS.
"Two films can't make the change. It has to be 20 films. Government has to step in and do lots of direct advertising. There should be public education; there should be education at the younger level. There should be other artistic ways like dance and theatre to spread the same message. The message has to come from seven-eight directions," said Rahul who features in "I AM" releasing Friday.
Director Onir's film "I AM" takes up the issue of discrimination against gays, women and other sections of society.
"The idea is to say any kind of discrimination is bad. If somebody walks away out of the film understanding that it's unfair to judge people by the colour of their skin, religion or sexual orientation, or their caste, then I would think the film has done its job," said Rahul who directed in 2001 "Everybody Says I'm Fine!", which won for him the John Schlesinger Honorable Mention Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival.
In the same breath, Rahul, however, says government should do the bigger job of taking such message to the masses.
"Take that to the masses. And that's for another film, for government to do... It doesn't have to be a small art-house film like 'I AM' to take unfair responsibility," he said.
Since his impressive debut as Agastya Sen in "English, August" in 1994, Rahul has done many meaningful roles - "Mr. and Mrs. Iyer", "Jhankar Beats", "Chameili", "Tahaan" and "Anuranan".
Despite the long innings and impressive body of work, he maintains he doesn't take films as a career.
"I don't have a career, I have films. People think of their career. I never think of the next film or whether I want to do it in terms of role, director, story or in terms of what I can bring to it. A career just happens. How much can you calculate it as an actor? Someone has to call you and cast you," said Rahul who is also a rugby player.
Why does he stick to art house cinema?
"If I go back to commercial films, it would be only to take part in certain films which I haven't done before like 'Lethal Weapon' where I may be Danny Glover to somebody like Mel Gibson or an action film or can team up with a superstar and do something.
"I can't carry the budget of a mainstream film; so I will always be part of the supporting cast, which I am quite willing to do if the role is great," he said.

Ekta promised me an image makeover: Sakshi Tanwar

Agra, May 29 : It's not easy to get a second chance to play a lead in a TV show or to get an image makeover, but Sakshi Tanwar, the perfect 'bahu' of the small screen, has got both thanks to Ekta Kapoor. The actress thanks Ekta for giving her "Bade Achche Lagte Hain", in which her character is closer to her age.

"I play a modern day woman who believes in love and late marriage. The show brings two people together, who have very different ideologies and shows how they fall in love after getting married," Sakshi told IANS in an interview.

"One thing that I want to share is that when we did generation leap in 'Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii' in 2006, Ekta had promised me a show which would be closer to my age and will help me change my image. She kept her promise and offered me this show soon after we ended 'Kahaani....'," said the 38-year-old.

Produced by Balaji Arts, the show, going on air Monday, revolves around a business tycoon, played by Ram Kapoor, in his late 40s and a working woman in her late 30s.

Sakshi says just like her character in the show, she is believes in late marriages.

"I believe in late marriages - just like Priya, my character in the show who gets married in her 30's. I am very hopeful about such things, I have seen it. There is nothing in this show that has not happened in life."

So when is she planning to tie the knot

"I believe in destiny, whenever destiny throws me into it, I will," she said.

What kept you away from small screen for so long?

"I was offered the show two years back, but I was very sure that I wanted a break after working non-stop for eight years. So I took a conscious sabbatical. I didn't want to get into the same routine of daily soaps. I kept Ekta waiting for years, but she was determined that she would wait and would make the show with me and Ram only," she said.

During her growing up years, the actress wanted to be in the civil service and entered showbiz just to earn quick perks.

"I was born in Rajasthan and but because of my father's job, we would get posted in different cities. It is strange, but I always wanted to be in the civil service. And I also had a bent towards creative activities like drama, elocution but I never knew that one day I would become an actress," she said.

"It was during my graduation that I got few roles in Doordarshan shows, but that time I did it only for pocket money and that is when I realised that this is something more than that."

"At that time I did episodes of 'Bhanwar', then I did a show called 'Rajdhani' for Star Plus. By that time I had realised that people have started recognising me with my characters. I had never dreamt of this - my dreams are very small, but honestly the response has been overwhelming," she said.

During her TV sojourn Sakshi featured in string of shows such as "Dastoor" (1996), "Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii" (2000), "Kutumb" (2001), "Devi"(2003), "Crime Patrol"(2010) and a cameo in "Balika Vadhu".

She also did films like "Saluun", "Coffee House" and "C Kkompany". Her next is with Sunny Deol in "Mohalla Assi".

"Ii is a very big opportunity for me. I play Savitri, who is Dharmnath Pandey's (Sunny) wife. Sunny plays a Sanskrit teacher. Backdrop is Benaras of 1980-1990, when the liberalisation phase was on. So the film brings forth the difficulties and how we deal with it," she said.

'Dhamaal' turning to be 'injurious' for Jaaved Jaaferi

Mumbai, May 28 : Jaaved Jaaferi had a hard time shooting for "Dhamaal". He injured himself once during the shoot. He had a tougher time while shooting for the sequel because he got injured again - twice during the course of the film.

"I got hurt on the last day of shooting. What a way to wind up, we had 15 fantastic looking girls from around the world, and we were shooting for a dream sequence song.

"There was a part where I was jumping with these women on a bed, I had to do a summersault but the bed was not meant for a summersault. I went up but when I came down, my knee hit something and I ruptured my ligament and also have a slight fracture," Jaaved told IANS.

Even in the first part of the film, Jaaved had suffered an injury.

"In the first film, I tore my hamstring muscles and in 'Double Dhamaal' I had two injuries. One I ruptured my blood vessel in my thumb, when Ashish (Choudhury) accidently hit me. and the second is the ligament tear," said the actor.

It seems working in the film is becoming a risky affair for the actor!

I had refused 'Kitchen Champion': Ronit Roy

Mumbai, May 28 : Television and film actor Ronit Roy, who is all geared up to host the fourth season of cookery show "Kitchen Champion" after being the anchor for the first three, revealed that he had initially refused the job.

"In the beginning when I was offered 'Kitchen Champion' and I got to know that it was a cookery show, I refused to do it but Ashwani Yardi, the head of programming at Colors said that I should at least hear out the concept of the show before making a decision.

"When I heard it, it seemed very interesting. Fun, games and also the show gives me a chance to be myself, so I thought I'll do it," Ronit told IANS in an interview.

The first season saw television actresses as participants while the second season witnessed onscreen television couples battle it out in the kitchen. The third season had a few Bollywood actresses as part of the show.

The fourth season, which went on air May 23, features common women.

When asked what changes he had brought in himself in this season, the 45-year-old said: "Nothing extra from my side, because my research of the show tells me that my audience likes me the way I am. So I don't really want to change too much."

But the actor-anchor didn't rule out changes in the show's format.

"There is a little bit more emphasis on cooking. In games, instead of two, we are doing only one game. So understanding the recipes is what is being termed as important now. The cooking segment has become more systematic," he said.

So how good a cook is he himself?

"I do know how to cook. I can cook a lot of dishes, but unfortunately I don't cook now because of unavailability of time. I can cook a varied array of dishes... Indian food, Indian kababs, Italian food," said the actor who has worked in serials like "Kasautii Zindagi Kay", "Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi", "Kayamath", "Kasamh Se" and "Sarkarr".

He is currently seen in the show "Adaalat".

When asked whether acting was easier or hosting, he replied: "Neither of them is easy and we can't compare the two things because they are very different from each other. I put as much effort in hosting as I put in playing a character on TV or films."

Brett Lee link-up news stale, says Preity Zinta

New Delhi, May 28: Bollywood actress Preity Zinta seems to have got quite bored with her constant link-up to Australian fast bowler Brett Lee, who now plays for her Indian Premier League team Kings XI Punjab.

The actress, who was earlier dating industrialist Ness Wadia, took to micro-blogging site Twitter to tell her friends and fans that she is just friends with Lee.

"I think being romantically linked to Brett every year is outdated and stale news now! So sorry to say folks NO NEWS here! FRIENDS yeesss (sic)," posted Preity.

The duo was recently spotted together at a restaurant in Mumbai, and according to reports, they chose to exit separately to avoid paparazzi.

Lee has expressed on many occasions earlier that Preity is his favourite actress.

Non-bailable warrant against Sanjay Dutt

Mau (Uttar Pradesh), May 28 : A local court on Saturday issued a non-bailable warrant against Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt for failing to turn up in hearings of a case lodged against him for allegedly making provocative statements during a poll campaign in 2009.

judicial Magistrate Krishna Kumar issued the warrant against Dutt after the movie star repeatedly missed summons by the court even after the issue of a bailable warrant, and ordered Mau district magistrate to arrest and present him in court on July 8.

During an election rally for the 2009 Lok Sabha Elections, Dutt, the then national general secretary of Samajwadi Party (SP), had allegedly made inflammatory statements while he canvassed votes for party candidate Arshad Jamal.

Saturday’s ruling came on a complaint filed the local station house officer Vijay Shankar Yadav, that accused Dutt of breaching the model code of conduct of the Election Commission in April 2009.

In January 2009, Dutt had announced that he would contest the 2009 Lok Sabha elections on the Samajwadi Party ticket. However, he withdrew his candidacy in March 2009 after the Supreme Court refused to suspend his conviction in a criminal case.

A close friend of former Samajwadi leader Amar Singh, Dutt instead opted to campaign for the party’s candidates, that went on to be single largest party in state, winning 23 of the 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh

Only a few changes have been made, particularly in Ayesha’s father’s character played by Raghubir Yadav, to suit the Indian audience.
The story of the film is based on the sudden arrival of Han (played by Rannvijay Singh) and its impact on the monotonous life of Ching (Ayesha Takia).  She falls in love with him only to be shattered when he disappears just as abruptly. Ching calls Han’s parents and it is revealed that he had died many years ago.

Esha Deol: "I don’t like men who wax"

{Esha Deol:
May 27, 2011 - 04:00 PM

Esha Deol is back! In shipshape with renewed confidence. It’s the time for fresh tidings for the actor who had almost gone missing in action. Her home production Tell Me Oh Khuda is nearing release, putting her back in the spotlight. That her sabbatical got a little extended had the grapevine buzzing with rumours of her having undergone plastic surgery.

There was also talk of her having been through a rehab programme in the US. “I don’t know who started those rumours. I’m living with my mother. I’m a classical dancer and maintain a strict lifestyle. Initially, my baby fat was written about. Thanks to that today I’ve a toned body,” she says with poise. “I debuted in Razia Sultan,” reveals she. “My mother was carrying me in the horse riding scene!” she laughs. And while mom Hema Malini always regretted not having been able to plan a blockbuster debut for her daughter, she’s now re-launching her in their home production Tell Me O Khuda (TMOK). The film also features father Dharmendra, “I was a little tense about how we’d pull off the scenes,” says Esha. She plays Tanya, a girl in search of her identity in the film shot across Turkey, Rajasthan and Goa. “At home she’s a pucca mother, she’ll love you, pamper you. But on the sets she’s a professional.

PAPA KEHTE HAIN…
It was fun discovering things about papa Dharmendra too. “He once caught me yawning on the set. He got very upset and warned me, ‘You can’t do that at work’.” She continues, “Dad’s like an excited kid before the camera. If Hrithik Roshan and he were to do a film together, it would never get made.  Both of them would forever be in front of the monitor.” Dharmendra plays a Goan don in the film. Unquestionably, she’s her papa’s greatest fan and has his huge photograph in her bedroom. “My dad’s hot! Women still go crazy over him. He’s maintained himself well.

She shares a fond childhood memory. “Once we were abroad for a vacation. Mom, being a shopaholic, had run off for shopping. I woke up, started crying and kept asking for her. Dad gave me a bath, dressed me in a party frock, combed my hair and even put a black tikka. But I continued to howl. When she returned she was shocked at my appearance,” she laughs. Dad’s more like a friend. I’ve had some of the most amazing conversations with my father.

MAMA MIA
She has some fun memories of her star mother too. “As a kid I broke a lipstick every day. I’d insist that I be given one while mom was getting ready for shooting. I used to hate going to school and wanted to accompany her. “If I saw mom with another hero or dad with another heroine, I’d switch off the TV. Esha confesses to having watched Seeta Aur Geeta a thousand times.

SIBLING TALES
Esha believes that she being a Scorpio and her younger sister Ahana a Leo make for ‘a lethal combination’. “Mom is a Libran, so she balances everything,” she smiles. They have their sisterly spats. “Mostly, we fight over clothes. “But I do confide in her. She’s a friend that I have at home.” There were reports of Ahana also facing the camera but the elder sister denies them. “Nothing has been finalized yet. Esha’s also fond of her ‘protective’ Deol brothers - Sunny, Bobby and Abhay. “Sunny bhaiyya is soft and affectionate like dad. Bobby is emotional and more of a brother. But Abhay is a friend.

WAITING FOR LOVE
Esha has a life apart from films where she likes to take off to London or Chicago. “I love walking on the roads and playing football on the beach,” she says. But wouldn’t all this be more beautiful when shared with a companion? “I don’t want to be single. I need a nice guy in my life. All my friends have boyfriends,” she rues. “I’d like someone who is honest. “I’d be put off by someone who is self obsessed, someone who looks into the mirror more than I do. I don’t like men who wax.

Salman enters a studio in his vanity van

{Salman enters a studio in his vanity van}
May 27, 2011 - 01:00 PM

Okay when it’s Salman Khan, you don’t lock horns with him. It so happened that Salman Khan was at the Yash Raj studio gates getting in for a shoot.  And there came his huge vanity van also asking for permission to get in. Now, the actor was obviously granted entry but his van wasn’t so lucky. Salman spoke to the security guards asking them to allow his vanity van entry but they refused him. When the actor pleaded the case, he was told that only private cars are allowed entry. Salman being Salman of course wasn’t willing to back off. So he promptly got out of his SUV and sat in the vanity van. And very gleefully told the guards that it was his car for the day. The guards were obviously flummoxed. And they were forced to open the doors to Salman Khan’s vanity van.

Ranbir and Angela not an item

{Ranbir and Angela not an item}
May 27, 2011 - 12:00 PM

The grapevine may say anything about Ranbir Kapoor dating Angela Jonnson. But we know the truth. And the truth is indeed stranger than fiction. Fact is that Ranbir Kapoor isn’t dating Angela Jonsson as is being stated by all and sundry. The actor has met the upcoming model just about two times and not more than that. The rest of course is the figment of the gossipmongers’ rather fertile imagination, of course helped along tremendously by Ranbir Kapoor’s reputation of being a ladies man. We hear that Angela is quite an ambitious young thing, who’s looking to get a foothold in the industry. Last heard, there were talks that she was being rather friendly with Shahid Kapoor. Really now.

Preity is miffed with the media

{Preity is miffed with the media}
May 27, 2011 - 11:00 AM

Preity Zinta is angry. And she has reasons to. The actress is mighty upset with reports that have been floating around about the actress. One tabloid said she was getting back with Ness Wadia. The other said she had a 22 year old stashed away in New York and she’d even bought a six bedroom flat for him. The actress is seeing red. She has vehemently denied about getting back with Ness. He’s nothing more than a business partner today. As for a 22 year old in New York, she was downright appalled at such malicious stories. She clarified that she had actually rented the apartment and not bought it. And that it was currently being occupied by her brother who dabbles in real estate.

Kangna and Asin at loggerheads?

{Kangna and Asin at loggerheads? }
The claws are out! And the catfight is about to begin or so our sources say. Kangna Ranaut and Asin are apparently at loggerheads. Yes, they’re fighting over Salman Khan. No in the way you think. It seems Kangna is mighty upset with Asin. She feels Asin is the one responsible for spreading stories about her (Kangna) and Salman Khan. The actress insists that there’s nothing on between her and Sallu. That these are the figment of one actress’ imagination, nothing else. We believe you Kangna. So what you doing at Sallu’s house every second day? No, just asking.

Sushmita Sen back with her ex?

{Sushmita Sen back with her ex?}
So what is this we hear? A case of what goes around comes around? Cupid it seems has struck Sushmita Sen once again. Hmmm. That the secret about the glow on her face these days. And the object of her affection in none other than her ex-flame Manav Menon. Apparently the two met up recently and the latent sparks flew once again. The attraction was instant on both sides. Ever since the couple has been together. Good luck to them.

{Abhishek misses Aishwarya in Russia}
Abhishek Bachchan is quite a homeboy. And this was very evident when he started complaining of homesickness in Russia. He’s in Russia shooting for Players and is not able to enjoy the cold weather of the country. He’s been cringing to get back home to be with Ash and his parents. Sweet!

Is Bipasha down and out?

{Is Bipasha down and out?}
Bipasha Basu’s single status doesn’t seem to do wonders for her. Most of the actors in B-town feel that she's over and done with. Also the actors in question want to work with  younger actresses and not Bipasha who has already crossed 30. One director even had trouble finalizing a lead actor opposite her because none of the actors consented.

Priyanka made Kareena wait

Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor
Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor
On Friday evening, Kareena Kapoor drove down all the way from Pune to Mumbai for shooting her televised act for an award ceremony. What should have ended in a few hours took them forever, thanks to Priyanka Chopra.
Bebo finished with her make-up and hair and arrived on the stage to see that it was already occupied by Priyanka Chopra. She had to wait for four hours before she could actually shoot her performance.
A source present at the awards revealed, “Kareena landed at Yash Raj Studios around midnight; she found that the stage was occupied by Priyanka. She waited patiently for sometime. On spotting her, PC came down from the stage and told her that she could not give the stage until 1 am (although Kareena was assigned the stage at 12 am).”
PC continued to rehearse till 4 am, by that time, the exhausted Kareena had left for home.
The next morning, Kareena asked her manager Zahid to cancel the shooting (with Salman for Bodyguard), which was scheduled on Saturday in Pune and then came back to the studio to finish her song.
Normally, the fiery Bebo would have flared up because she was kept waiting for more than four hours. Although, she was smarting with humiliation, she maintained her cool. Later, she gave a call to the organizers and gave her piece.
They explained it to her that because of some technical problems, Priyanka’s act took a longer time.
PC’s spokesperson said, “Priyanka was not aware that Bebo had to wait for hours. Not that I am aware of. Priyanka had a long act with many changes.

The actor was not at home at the time of the incident.
Neighbours immediately alerted the park authorities who sent a team equipped with tranquilizers and a cage to trap the wild cat, Chief Conservator of Forests S. A. Thorat told IANS.

Working with Aamir Khan, Shahrukh Khan is like winning trophies

Shahrukh Khan And Aamir Khan Working with Bollywood stars is like winning a trophy, says newcomer Ali Fazal and adds that a role with the likes of Aamir Khan or Shah Rukh Khan is what newcomers crave for.
And he was lucky to get the opportunity – after playing a small role of Joy Lobo in Aamir Khan starrer “3 Idiots”, he is doing a pivotal role in SRK’s home production “Always Kabhi Kabhi”.
“To me, Aamir, Shar Rukh, Salman Khan are like trophies at the end of the race. We all are running to reach to them,” Ali, who doesn’t like comparing the two superstars, told IANS.
“It’s wrong to compare. I worked with them in different scenarios. Aamir Khan was in the film I was doing and Shah Rukh Khan is the producer of my film. As a producer, he played a brilliant role. He’s a thorough gentleman,” said the actor who shakes a leg with SRK in a song in “Always Kabhi Kabhi”.
“The little time we shot with him, we found him very professional. He made us feel like buddies. It takes three days to finish one song, he just took one day. He learnt the dance steps in one hour and he was ready,” he added.
“Always Kabhi Kabhi” happened before “3 Idiots” released, says Ali.
“I signed this movie before ‘3 Idiots’ was released. When I started working in this movie ‘3 Idiots’ was in it post-production,” said the actor, who is an engineering student and says playing a school boy was tough.
“For me, playing an older character is easier than playing a younger one. It’s very hard because there is a very thin line between the age group of 18, 20 or 23-year-old.
“You have seen Joy Lobo and if you see Sam, the character I play here, he is a very fun loving boy. But again he is a schoolboy and in tense moments it’s a very different how an 18-year-old would react or cry. You will see the difference from what I did in ‘3 Idiots’. It was definitely tough.”
Apart from Ali, “Always Kabhi Kabhi” will launch two new faces – Zoa Morani and Satyajeet Dubey. This is television host and radio jockey Roshan Abbas’s directorial debut. “Love Aaj Kal” fame Giselle Monteiro also stars in it.
Set in a school, “Always Kabhi Kabhi” is about four youngsters trying to compete with pressure of growing up and many firsts that everyone experiences in high school.
Playing a lead role was much of a responsibility for Ali who discovered his acting talent during school days. He was a basketball player but after an accident, he shifted to theatre.
“When I started doing plays, I found a new side of me. Then I started exploring more about it. Every time I would do it, something new would come out. I did this role,” said the Doon School alumnus.
Ali feels that for any film, script is important. “Half of the job is done when you have a good story. Follow your punctuation marks and half of your acting is done.”

Marketing has taken over content in Bollywood – Kay Kay Menon

kay kay menon 200x166“Marketing has taken over content today and I have serious objections to that. It is the job of marketing people to think of creative ways to publicise a film. Just adding an item number in the film is not marketing,” Kay Kay told IANS on phone from Mumbai. “I don’t subscribe to such nonsense. If the content of the film is good, it wouldn’t require an item number to make it work,” he added.
The 48-year-old feels filmmakers’ focus has shifted to other not-so-relevant aspects of movies; as a result the content of the film is being compromised with.
“Cinema is being misused today. Filmmakers today focus more on which dance step should be better for an actor, how the music should be packaged; as a result content becomes secondary,” he said.
The management graduate sailed into films on Saeed Akhtar Mirza’s 1995 release “Naseem”, but it was his role in Sudhir Mishra’s “Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi” that brought him into the limelight. Later his role as DCP Rakesh Maria in “Black Friday” won him critical acclaim.
Like many others, in his early years Kay Kay too worked in TV shows such as “Pradhan Mantri” and TV movies like “Zebra 2″ and “Last Train To Mahakali”.
The actor, who has been a part of some of the meaningful cinematic offerings like “Corporate”, “Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd”, “Sarkar” and “Life in a…Metro”, blames the audience for promoting what he calls “trash”.
“The filmmakers are succeeding in promoting trash because people are lapping it up. It is sad to see that nobody is standing up and raising voice against it. Filmmakers should be confident of the product they are offering to people,” said Kay Kay, who will now be seen in a “glorified” cameo in forthcoming film “Bhindi Baazaar.Inc” about pickpocketing.
The film releases June 10.
Bollywood is ruled by stars, but Kay Kay doesn’t believe in the “star” tag and says he is happy being an actor rather than a star.
“Being a star has nothing to do with acting. The other actors are stars because of the lifestyle they lead and their surrounding per se. I can’t lead that life. I am comfortable with the life I lead and I am happy being an actor. I want to inspire with my work at all point,” he said.
Many actors are stepping behind the camera, by turning producer or director. Asked if Kay Kay ever plans to step behind the camera and venture into direction, he said: “I believe in specializing. And I am a specialised actor. I can’t be a jack of all trades. If some day I get bored of it, I would think of doing something else.”
After “Bhindi Baazaar Inc”, Kay Kay will show off his comic skills in Sagar Ballary’s “Bheja Fry 2″ with Vinay Pathak and Suresh Menon.

Situational songs dominate ‘Bheja Fry 2′ album (Music Review)

bheja fry 2 poster1 200x293 Film: “Bheja Fry 2″
Music Directors: Ishq Bector, Sneha Khanwalkar and Sagar Desai
Singers: Shree D, Ishq Bector, Apeksha Dandekar, Vinay Pathak, Rekha Rao and Dolly Peters
Rating: **
The soundtrack of “Bheja Fry 2″, the sequel to 2007’s hit comedy “Bheja Fry”, is all about situational song. And three composers teamed up to churn out five originals and one remix.
The album starts with the fun song “Ishq da keeda”, crooned by Shree D and Ishq Bector. It has full-fledged fast western beats with touches of classical music. It is pacy and foot-tapping and talks about the situation when someone falls in love. In short, entertaining and worth a hear.
Next is another fast-paced number called “We go crazy”, which has Punjabi beats. The title song of the album is sung by Shree D and Apeksha Dandekar. This one too has a fun element. It also has a remixed version.
It is followed by a song sung by actor Vinay Pathak,”O rahi”. A moderately paced number, it talks about life and is quite hummable.
Up next is “Banjaare”, sung by Rekha Rao. The mood of the song and the way it has been sung is quite gypsy in nature, but it has nothing new or extraordinary to talk about.
“Burra na mano ji” winds up the soundtrack. It is basically about the protagonist of the film and has been sung by Shree D and Dolly Peters. Moderately-paced, humorous, but very situational number. Not a track that would make one hum or dance.
On the whole quite an average album and the songs are more thematic than being individual entertainers.

Bipasha Basu pays for excess baggage at airport

bipasha basu1 199x266 BollywoodWorld.com, Arriving from London, Bollywood actor Bipasha Basu was Thursday asked to cough up Rs.12,000 for excess baggage by the Customs at the airport here.
Customs officials said Bipasha was not detained but simply asked to pay for excess baggage.
“While her baggage was being checked, some items were found in excess. Hence she was charged customs duty for the items,” Commissioner of Customs (Airport) P.M. Govande told IANS.
“She was not detained, just made to pay a duty, like anyone else who carries baggage in excess,” he added.
Bipasha agreed that she had gone overboard with her shopping and hence had to pay for the excess items she was carrying.
“It was a routine check and many others were being checked as well. I paid Rs.12,000 as tax against some personal goods. I think the Customs is doing an excellent job,” Bipasha said in a statement.
On May 18, Bollywood actress Minissha Lamba was detained at the airport for 16 hours by the customs department for carrying undeclared jewellery worth nearly Rs.50 lakh.
She was intercepted while crossing the Green Channel at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport. She was reportedly returning from the Cannes International Films Festival.

Arshad Warsi finds sequels risky, but excited about ‘Ishqiya 2′

arshad warsi Ishqiya 2 200x150 Arshad Warsi has worked in a couple of movie sequels and finds them risky, but at the same time he is very excited about the second instalment of “Ishqiya” because he finds the role of a rustic guy challenging.”Finally, it is decided that the sequel of ‘Ishqiya’ is being made. I’m quite happy about that. ‘Ishqiya’ is way tougher than ‘Dhamaal’ or ‘Golmaal’ because that’s a character that speaks in a different dialect,” Arshad told IANS.
“It’s completely somebody else. I’ve not played such a character before. So speaking in that language, behaving that way, body language, colour and attitude – everything is very different. So, it’s exciting and a lot of fun,” he said.
The film will go on floors end of this year.
“I haven’t heard the script yet. I’ve been told that it’s really good and I have full faith in Vishal (Bhardwaj) and Abhishek (Chaubey), so the script will definitely be nice,” said the 43-year-old.
“Ishqiya”, which has bagged four National Awards, was released in January 2010 and it also starred Vidya Balan and Naseeruddin Shah in pivotal roles. The film was directed by Abhishek Chaubey and was produced by Vishal Bhardwaj.
In “Isqiya”, Arshad essayed Babban, who is hot-blooded, lustful and scoffs at the idea of true romantic love.
Earlier, Arshad worked in the “Golmaal” franchise, now he will be seen in “Dhamaal” sequel set to release in June and then part three of “Lage Raho Munnabhai” releasing later this year.
Although Arshad is being a part of so many sequels, the actor, who started his Bollywood career in 1996 with the film “Tere Mere Sapne”, doesn’t enjoy being a part of them.
“I feel I’m stuck with the sequels. New things are better. Sequels are big risks. The expectations are way high because you have already put a benchmark for yourself, now you are competing with yourself and at the same time, you can’t overdo. You have to still be in the same zone and still make people like it,” said Arshad.
“For me, I don’t like doing sequels, I like doing different things. It’s like eating the same food everyday. It’s monotonous for me,” he added.
So will he continue doing sequels?
“I’ll continue doing them. For me, there is an easy demarcation. There is one kind of work, that people like to see me in and then there is work that I want to do. So I satisfy myself as well as the people. ‘Dhamaal’, ‘Golmaal’, ‘Munna Bhai…’, all these I know people like to see me in, so I’ll keep doing these, as long as they make it,” he said.
“Films like ‘Saher’ and ‘Ishqiya’, I’ll keep doing those because I like them.

After Amrita, it’s Sonakshi to lose diamond jewellery…

After Amrita, it’s Sonakshi to lose diamond jewellery…
Sonakshi Sinha’s diamond jewelery worth lakhs went missing from her vanity van on the sets of her upcoming movie, Joker.
The theft occurred when the actress stepped out for a while during a late-night shoot.
Says a unit source, “She looked around in the van. But she was sure that she had kept it along with her other stuff. She then asked around but nothing came of it.”
Adds the source, “However, Sona remained calm. She did not want to raise a ruckus and delay the shoot.
No one would own up immediately and it would be an exercise in futility. In any case, the unit realised about the theft much later.”
Director Shirish Kunder says, “My birthday was on May 24 and the cast and crew were ushering it in on the sets. Akshay (Kumar) had planned a celebration.
This is when Sonakshi’s diamond solitaire earrings went missing from her vanity van. The theft occured at Film City. Sonakshi’s diamond solitaire earrings were stolen. A police complaint has been launched.”
However, Poonam maintains, “There are so many people who lose things or have their stuff robbed. Let Sonakshi be, so what if she is a star? I can only laugh about it now. Nothing was stolen.”

Imran talks about his “naughty boy” image, Ranbir Kapoor, etc, etc…

After SRK and Salman, you’re the hot new loverboy…
I think I’m cast in romantic roles partly because of the way I look, and my age. There’s certain age where you fit into those roles, you have to grow up a bit before you can do more serious roles.
So you wouldn’t experiment like Ranbir did in Rajneeti? In fact, people felt it was too early for him to play that role?
The first major experiment that I’ve done is Delhi Belly, which is not a romantic film. Apart from that, most of my work is in the classic commercial Bollywood style. I don’t think Ranbir made a wrong choice because Rocket Singh was his third film and he was excellent in it. The film didn’t do well commercially but got a lot of critical acclaim. I see absolutely nothing wrong in pursuing such roles if it suits you.
Your brand war with Ranbir made headlines…
We have our brand loyalties, and we endorse rival soft drinks, but that war had started even before we were born. He does more endorsements than me, so I don’t think we intrude in each other’s space. Even in terms of films, we have our own space, and there’s a certain level of respect we have for each other. I know he’s never said anything wrong about me, and whenever there’s a doubt we talk man-to-man.
Marriage has obviously not affected your popularity?
The top stars in our country are married and there’s never been any debate about their popularity. In fact, I believe it adds to your popularity because people see you as loyal. And I wouldn’t like to change my real life image, because that’s who I am. I’ve always been open about who I am, whether it’s my relationship with Avantika or my friendships. I think people see me as a nice, romantic and dependable guy. They don’t see me as a casanova; hence, I get offered a certain kind of roles and brands.
You think Ranbir’s single-ready-to-mingle status gets him into media trouble?
That’s true, but the fact is that Ranbir is a young star and he’s in a position where he can enjoy life. He’s not attached to any one person, and if he enjoys life, wine, women…there’s nothing bad about it. Ranbir’s not doing anything illegal, but if media wants to write about it, you can’t stop them. Its unfair to say what he’s doing is wrong.
Recently, Salman said that after the Khans, Ranbir and you are the next superstars…
“It’s scary because today the three big Khans are still ruling Bollywood, and younger stars like us are trying to catch up with them. Sometime soon, the industry will turn to us and we have to take it forward. It’s a big responsibility.”
Though Aamir still rates Ranbir as a better actor…
“He had a headstart, yaar. He started one year before me…”

Is Salman Khan hogging the limelight alone in Ready???

Is Salman Khan hogging the limelight alone in Ready???
In the upcoming and most awaited flick ‘Ready’, Salman Khan is all alone hogging the limelight. And guess what??? The film’s leading lady, Asin has no qualms with that.
While anyone else in her place would have definitely felt bad and insecure, Asin says she doesn’t mind being sidelined by Salman.
“When a film stars Salman Khan, it is but natural that the script is written to accentuate his presence in the film. It is also logical to have the film revolve around him. The same has to reflect in the promos as well where his style and mannerisms are exposed to the audience,” Asin tells a news agency.
The South beauty has already acted with Salman in London Dreams. Doing another flick with Sallu was a very conscious decision.
“I waited for the best offer to come my way and I got that in the form of ‘Ready’ where I get to play a solo heroine in a commercial film with Salman and Anees Bazmee,” said Asin.
The film is set for release on June 3.

Shahrukh booed by Mumbai crowd..

Shahrukh booed by Mumbai crowd..
Shahrukh Khan was missing from the Mumbai’s Wandkhede Stadium on Wednesday evening where his team Kolkata Knight Riders and the Mumbai Indians had a crucial match.
The reason Shahrukh stayed away from the stadium is because he is hurt over being booed by a section of the Mumbai crowd when he cheered his team in the match against Pune Warriors at DY Patil Stadium a few days back. Since the Pune team included Ganguly, the former captain of KKR, a part of the crowd was rooting for Ganguly to spoil the Riders’ progress in the points table. But when KKR won over Pune, the irate crowd booed and jeered at Shahrukh.
According to the KKR co-owner Jai Mehta (husband of Juhi Chawla), Shahrukh has decided to stay away from all the IPL matches in Mumbai stadiums.
Previously also, Shahrukh has shown his fragility in handling criticism and negative comments from fans. When a couple of people posted abusive messages on his Twitter page, he almost quit the micro-blogging site. Now, he’s boycotted the visit to the stadiums in Mumbai.

Royal treatment for Salman and Kareena..

Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor’s arrival in Patiala recently for the third schedule of Atul Agnihotri’s Bodyguard, created a buzz in the former princely state widely regarded as Punjab’s cultural capital, where museums, palaces and parks abound.
Salman and Kareena are staying and shooting at Neemrana hotel Baradari Palace.
Opened four years ago, the heritage-hotel is housed in a 19th century palace of Patiala Maharaja Rajinder Singh. In Bodyguard Baradari Palace is shown to be Kareena’s house.
The hotel’s manager tells a popular tabloid that the filmmakers have exclusively booked the hotel from May 25 to June 23. A notice on the hotel’s gate says it will remain closed to public until then.
The hotel had earlier hosted the Deols during the filming of Yamla Pagla Deewana – the sprawling house where Anupam Kher is shown as living with his extended clan.
The hotel with 11 suites and 6 rooms has been placed under tight security by its management, even though Salman is traveling with his own security detail from Mumbai.
Production team member arrived in the city well ahead of the stars to overlook the arrangements.
Other cast members joining the Patiala schedule include Raj Babbar and Hazel. Shatrughan Sinha is not part of this schedule, said the production member.
The three digit temperatures of Patiala are not beckoning enough for Salman to enjoy the sprawling gardens of the palace.

“Salman has been in his room which has been cordoned off by his security men since the time he arrived in the city,”
the hotel manager told.
“We have not yet received any special requests from either Salman or Kareena but Salman did inquired about workout facilities in the hotel.”
While Kareena plans to stay in Patiala through the entire duration of the shoot, Salman will be in and out of the city since Ready is releasing on June 3.

Hollywood scores yet again

By Taran Adarsh, May 27, 2011 - 20:35 IST Hollywood films, at least most of them, are having a dream run at the Indian box-office. The new releases, THE HANGOVER PART II and KUNG FU PANDA 2, embarked on a healthy note, competing with each other for footfalls at cineplexes and overshadowing all Hindi films, past and present. The two films are expected to dominate the domestic box-office this week, leaving the Hindi competition way behind.

What's noteworthy is that HANGOVER has opened well in traditional markets as well. Centres like Jaipur [Inox] collected Rs 71,000 in its first 3 shows, Kota [Fun] Rs 20,000 in 3 shows, Bhopal [Fun] Rs 38,000 in 2 shows, Indore [PVR] Rs 1,03,000 in 4 shows and Nagpur [Cinemax] Rs 36,500 in 3 shows, which is much, much better than the figures of most Hindi films.

hey are all set to create a drizzle of sizzle. Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif are poised to become the hottest new pair in town. Katrina, who has earlier sizzled with Akshay Kumar in a string of hits, has found a new favourite in Hrithik. After shooting together in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (ZNMD) , Katrina and Hrithik are recommending one another to as many filmmakers as possible.

Says a source, "Both Katrina and Hrithik feel their on-screen chemistry is incredible. They were also very impressed by one another's professionalism during the shooting of ZNMD. They are both married to excellence, you see."

In fact, Hrithik was very keen for Katrina to do Krrish 3. But she had committed all her dates to Yash Raj. Next year she has promised to keep time for at least two films with Hrithik.
